Finding your Kibbe body type as a man doesn't require a professional consultation — you can do it yourself with careful observation and honest self-assessment. This guide walks you through a men's-specific Kibbe body type test, section by section.

For a broader overview of how the Kibbe system works for men, read the complete Kibbe for men guide first. If you're completely new to the system, start with what Kibbe body types are.

Before You Start: Setup

  • Wear fitted clothing — not gym clothes, not baggy jeans. A fitted t-shirt and slim trousers work well.
  • 2. Use a full-length mirror in a well-lit room. Natural light is best.

    3. Take a photo from the front, at chest height, about 6-8 feet away. Looking at a photo is more objective than looking in a mirror.

    4. Be honest. The most common typing mistake is seeing what you want rather than what's there. Check out our guide on common Kibbe mistakes to avoid the biggest pitfalls.

    Part 1: Bone Structure Assessment

Your bone structure is the foundation of your type and will never change regardless of weight or fitness level.

    Question 1: Overall Frame

Look at your full body from the front. What is the overall impression?

  • A) Long, narrow, angular — You appear taller than you are. Limbs are long relative to torso. Joints are prominent. → Yang
  • B) Broad, blunt, sturdy — You have width across the shoulders and/or rib cage. Joints are moderate to wide. → Natural
  • C) Moderate, even, balanced — Nothing stands out as particularly wide, narrow, or extreme. → Classic
  • D) Compact, mixed — You have a smaller frame with a mix of sharp and soft features. → Gamine
  • E) Small, delicate, rounded — Bones are narrow but not sharp. The overall frame is soft rather than angular. → Yin
  • Question 2: Shoulders

How do your shoulders appear relative to your hips?

  • A) Narrow, sharp, angular — Shoulders are narrow with visible bone at the edge. → Yang
  • B) Wide, blunt, broad — Shoulders extend well beyond the torso. Strong shelf-like appearance. → Natural
  • C) Moderate, even — Shoulders are proportional. Neither notably wide nor narrow. → Classic
  • D) Sharp but narrow — There's angularity in a compact frame. → Gamine
  • E) Sloped, soft, rounded — Shoulders slope gently without prominent bone. → Yin
  • Question 3: Vertical Line

How tall do you appear in photos compared to your actual height?

  • A) Taller than actual height — You look elongated. → Yang
  • B) Proportional with width emphasis — Your width is more noticeable than your height. → Natural
  • C) Proportional in all directions — You look exactly your height, balanced. → Classic
  • D) Smaller/compact — You appear shorter or more compact than actual height. → Gamine
  • E) Petite or softly proportioned — You appear smaller in a gentle, rounded way. → Yin
  • Question 4: Hands and Feet

Look at your hands and feet relative to your body.

  • A) Long, narrow, with visible tendons → Yang
  • B) Broad, square, sturdy → Natural
  • C) Moderate, proportional → Classic
  • D) Small, compact, defined → Gamine
  • E) Small, soft, fleshy → Yin
  • Part 2: Body Flesh Assessment

How your body distributes flesh (fat and muscle) is a key indicator. This is separate from your current fitness level — it's about your body's natural tendency.

    Question 5: Muscle Development

When you exercise, how does your body respond?

  • A) Lean, long muscles — you stay slim → Yang
  • B) Broad, bulky muscles — you look athletic/stocky → Natural
  • C) Even, moderate muscle — proportional gains → Classic
  • D) Compact, defined muscles — gains show quickly in a small frame → Gamine
  • E) Soft, rounded — muscle is hard to define visually → Yin
  • Question 6: Weight Distribution

If/when you gain weight, where does it tend to go?

  • A) Evenly but adds bulk — silhouette stays straight → Yang/Dramatic
  • B) Across the back, shoulders, midsection — adds width → Natural
  • C) Perfectly evenly — proportions stay balanced → Classic
  • D) Midsection primarily — torso thickens → Gamine
  • E) Face, chest, hips, upper arms — adds curves/roundness → Yin

    Question 7: Torso Shape

Looking at your torso from the front:

  • A) Long, narrow, flat → Yang
  • B) Wide, straight, rectangular → Natural
  • C) Moderate, balanced, proportional → Classic
  • D) Short, compact → Gamine
  • E) Rounded, soft, widened at chest/hips → Yin
  • Part 3: Facial Features Assessment

For men, facial features are especially important in Kibbe typing because men's clothing options are narrower — your face determines much of your ideal formality, texture, and detail level. Read the full Kibbe facial features guide for deeper analysis.

    Question 8: Jawline

Look at your jaw from the front:

  • A) Sharp, angular, defined — visible jaw muscle → Yang

  • C) Moderate, symmetrical, balanced → Classic
  • D) Small, sharp, defined in a compact way → Gamine
  • E) Rounded, soft, gently curved → Yin

  • B) Wide, blunt, noticeable → Natural
  • C) Moderate, balanced → Classic
  • D) Prominent in a compact face → Gamine
  • E) Rounded, subtle, soft → Yin
  • Question 10: Eyes

What is the general shape and impression of your eyes?

  • A) Narrow, elongated, close-set → Yang

What is the general shape and fullness of your lips?

  • A) Thin, straight, narrow → Yang
  • B) Moderate, straight → Natural
  • C) Moderate, balanced → Classic
  • D) Moderate to full in a small face → Gamine
  • E) Full, rounded, fleshy → Yin
